In a world where sustainability and environmental consciousness are becoming increasingly important, young entrepreneurs are stepping up to the plate with innovative circular business ideas.

During the RE-START Online Competition held on October 30th, 2023, participants had the opportunity to present their circular business concepts, advocating for the principles of the Circular Economy, with the goal of fostering a more sustainable and economically feasible future.

The EU funded and Erasmus + RE-START project, contributes to the new EU industrial strategy, and seeks to guide HEIs students, recent graduates and potential start-uppers in developing circular startups or transforming their existing business ideas into sustainable models. These circular business models incorporate strategies such as reducing waste, reusing resources, recycling, recovering materials, and regenerating products.

A wide spectrum of individuals participated in the RE-START competition, each contributing their distinct viewpoint and creative ideas. The event brought together 13 individuals from different backgrounds and developmental stages to highlight the vibrant spirit of sustainability and entrepreneurship. Showcasing the diversity of expertise in the field of circular economy, the competition attracted a wide range of competitors, from aspirational students to potential startupers. The concepts discussed covered a wide range of sectors. The participations highlighted the wide range of circular economy applications and varied from early-stage concepts to comprehensive company strategies.

The competition was made even more exciting by the presence of a distinguished panel of judges. Each judge brought a wealth of expertise in fields related to circular economy, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. Their knowledge and experience ensured a thorough evaluation of the presented ideas for their real-world potential.

After a 3 hours  filled with innovative pitches and thoughtful discussions, 6 outstanding ideas emerged as the winners and among them one gained the grant prize of the RE-START Online Competition. The best business ideas not only embodied the principles of circular economy but also demonstrated its potential for real-world impact. The big winner received funding support, free courses,and guidance to turn its idea into a thriving circular startup, whereas the rest 5 winners received free mentorships.  The competition not only provided participants with the opportunity to compete, fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation, but also offered networking opportunities for them to connect with like-minded peers who share the same passion for circularity and entrepreneurship.

All the winners have the opportunity after the competition to turn their visionary idea into a thriving circular startup. This competition not only served as a platform for creative ideas but also as a great opportunity of networking with potential investors and a significant step towards a more sustainable and circular f uture.
